** 3-year PhD scholarship opportunities **
The LIRMM, at Université de Montpellier in France, offers several 3-year PhD scholarships in Computing starting September 2015. The topics on offer are prioritised. Among the top-priority ones is the following NLP topic, supervised by Jean-Philippe Prost and Christian Retoré:
Modelling Semantic Preferences for Interpreting Ambiguous Utterances
The topic is concerned with the introduction of preferences in the semantic modelling of natural language, following the lead of similar works in syntax. The focus will be put on syntax and semantics (lexical and compositional) of deteriorated or underspecified utterances. This topic should open avenues of research in language cognition with the modelling confronting experiments. It may also, depending on the applicant, lead to interesting logical and formal developments.
